Greetings! I would like to address this request that came to me about Isaiah 7:15. I believe that this verse is speaking about the Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to read 7:14 with it to help us understand who we are speaking of: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.”
We will have to go to some other scriptures to help us to understand this. In Exodus 3:8, we know that Moses was leading the children of Israel into a land of milk and honey. We know that this is Canaan land. What we have to know is that Canaan land in the Old Testament is an allegory of what we would say is heaven or the spirit world. I know it would take much to explain this, but we will stay with the question and keep the answer as simple as we can.
In Isaiah, we know that we are talking about Jesus and that He was eating butter and honey; we also know that (naturally speaking) butter and honey is not going to give us the power to choose between good and evil (discernment).
As an example, read John 4:14. Jesus told the woman at the well that if she would drink of this water then she would never thirst again. We know that He was speaking of spiritual water of life.
So, when we think of Jesus eating of this butter and honey, He is talking about eating of the spiritual manna which is from heaven. You would have to rend the veil between the Lord and the Christ, and the veil between the Son of Man and the Son of God. So, as a man He was partaking of the Father or Spirit, the mind of Christ in which we need to be eating of the same thing today so that we can discern good and bad in the same way. If we are not eating from the tree of life, which is the Lord Jesus, then we will not be able to see good when good comes. Just remember that the Old Testament is shadow of the things to come. It is God in the veil. The New Testament brings Him out of the veil.
Another thought that might help you is from the book of Revelation 10:8-11. John was commanded to eat the little book in which he said that it was sweet as honey in his mouth but bitter to his belly, both bitter and sweet, just as in Isaiah to discern good and bad. I pray and hope that this will help you to understand
God bless, Brother Rob
